About

The Monroe Public Library serves all the residents of Monroe and everyone in the surrounding areas of Jasper and Marion counties.  Anyone over age 5 may get a library card at no cost.  The library has a collection of over 22,000 items including adult books, teenage books, children's books, large print, videos and DVD's, and audio books . We receive over 25 different magazines for kids, teens, and adults.  All of these items may be borrowed from the library.  In addition, we have a photocopier (fee for use), and can laminate items up to letter size (fee for use).  For those of you who are technology oriented we have 4 public use computer with wireless internet and printing capabilities.

Offsite we invite you to walk our Story Walk.  In conjunction with the Friends of the Monroe Library, the Monroe Kiwanis Club, and the Larry and Carol Diekema Memorial fund, we are excited to provide this fun activity for families to enjoy.  Begin at the parking lot under the water tower and beside the Red Rock Park and follow the bike trail along across Marion Street and in front of the elementary school and ending at Lincoln Street.  Sponsorships are available for businesses and residents to help defray the costs.  Stories are changed monthly as weather permits.  Fun facts are always included at the end of the walk, and kids are invited to come tell us a fun fact to get a special prize.

We have a large, welcoming children's area with a large collection of children's books and hands on activities for the family

Relax in our quiet adult reading lounge with a newspaper, magazine, or book. We offer fresh coffee for our adult patrons.

The teens have their own space to explore our expanded collection of young adult books and magazines and graphic novels.

The spacious meeting room is used to host various special events for all ages. It can also be reserved by our patrons during business hours.
